The essence of technology: IPS is an "improvement" of LCD rather than a replacement

Many consumers have the misconception that "LCD and IPS are opposing technologies". In fact, IPS (planar conversion technology) is essentially an upgraded version of LCD (liquid crystal display technology). Mr. Wang, the technical director of Bibuke's technology research and development department, explains: "Traditional LCD controls the display through the photoelectric effect of liquid crystal molecules, while IPS technology optimizes the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, enabling smoother rotation under the action of voltage. This core difference leads to a performance gap."

From key performance indicators, the differences between the two are very significant. In terms of color performance, IPS panels can present more vivid and rich colors due to better light transmittance, and the gray-scale transition is more natural, making them the preferred choice for professional fields such as graphic design and image post-production. Bibuke's laboratory data shows that its IPS panel models have a color gamut coverage of up to 99% sRGB, while traditional LCD models are approximately 72% sRGB.

The gap in viewing angle performance is more intuitive. Traditional LCDs tend to have color shifts and brightness reduction when viewed from the side, while IPS panels' 178° wide viewing angle feature ensures consistent picture quality regardless of viewing angles. The reporter tested on the Bibuke experience store found that even when viewing the IPS display from a 45° side angle, the picture color was almost indistinguishable from that of a front view, while traditional LCDs showed obvious color deviation.

However, traditional LCDs are not without advantages. Their mature manufacturing process makes their cost about 20%-30% lower than IPS, and they have an advantage in power consumption control, making them suitable for budget-constrained or long-term operation office scenarios.

Scene matching: Bibuke's "precise positioning" strategy

For the characteristics of the two types of panels, Bibuke's latest product line has clearly defined scene divisions. Its "Innovator" series uses Fast-IPS panels, specifically targeting professional creators. In addition to the high color gamut advantage, it also compresses the response time to 1ms through technical adjustment, solving the pain point of slow response in traditional IPS. "We optimize the OD acceleration technology to enable IPS panels to also meet the needs of light gaming, achieving a balance between professional creation and entertainment experience," Mr. Wang explained.

The "Smart Office" series uses the optimized traditional LCD panels, focusing on high cost-effectiveness and low power consumption. This series of models are priced in the range of 899-1299 yuan, equipped with anti-blue light backlight modules, and are particularly suitable for enterprise bulk purchases and daily office use. The market department manager of Bibuke disclosed that this model achieved 10,000 orders in the first week of its launch, with main customers being small and medium-sized enterprises and educational institutions.

It is worth noting that Bibuke has also made technical improvements to address the "light leakage problem" of IPS panels. By adopting a full-lamination packaging process, the light leakage of its IPS models is reduced by 60% compared to the previous generation, and only slight light leakage occurs in complete black environments, which does not significantly affect daily use.

Purchase guide: Three tips to select the right panel

For the purchasing decisions of ordinary consumers, Mr. Wang provided three suggestions: First, consider the core needs. Professional design, film and television production, etc., should prefer IPS, while basic office, monitoring display, etc., can choose traditional LCD; second, evaluate the budget. If the budget is below 1500 yuan, traditional LCDs have a more prominent cost advantage; Finally, let's focus on the additional features. For gamers, they need to choose a Fast-IPS model with a response time of less than 1ms, while for office users, they can prioritize features such as low blue light and high brightness.

Industry experts point out that as display technology progresses, the cost of IPS panels is gradually decreasing, and they are expected to become more widespread in various fields in the future. While traditional LCDs still hold an important position in the entry-level market due to their cost advantage. "There is no absolutely better panel; there are only choices that are more suitable for the needs." Mr. Wang emphasized that this is precisely the core logic behind Bibuke's launch of the all-scenario product line.
