Latest company news about The difference between TFT screens and IPS screens

The main differences between TFT screens and IPS screens lie in their structure, performance, and cost.

TFT screens (thin-film field-effect transistors) and IPS screens (planar conversion technology) are both types of liquid crystal display technologies, but there are some significant differences between them. IPS screens are an improved liquid crystal display technology developed based on TFT technology. Here are the main differences between them:

Structural differences: The two poles of the IPS screen are on the same plane, while the electrodes of other liquid crystal modes are arranged vertically. The IPS technology optimizes the arrangement of the liquid crystal molecules, adopting a horizontal arrangement method. When subjected to external pressure, the molecular structure will slightly sink downward, but the overall molecules remain in a horizontal state. In contrast, the structure of the TFT screen is more complex, mainly consisting of a fluorescent tube, a light guide plate, a polarizer, a filter plate, a glass substrate, a director film, liquid crystal materials, and thin film transistors, etc.

Performance differences: The IPS screen achieves faster and more stable response speed by changing the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules and adopting horizontal conversion technology. This enables the IPS screen to have a quicker response time when handling continuous dynamic images, reducing image blurring and jittering. Additionally, the viewing angle of the IPS screen can reach 178 degrees, with high color reproduction accuracy and realistic images. While the TFT screen can also "actively" control each individual pixel on the screen, its response time is relatively slow and is not suitable for handling dynamic content. However, the manufacturing cost of the TFT screen is lower, so it is more commonly used in most consumer electronic products.

Cost variance: Due to the different manufacturing processes, the cost of IPS screens is usually higher than that of TFT screens. This is because IPS screens employ more advanced technologies and materials, providing better display quality. Therefore, in price-sensitive applications, TFT screens may be a more suitable choice.
