Latest company news about Customized LCD Displays Serve as Core Engine for Industry Upgrading; Chinese Manufacturers Lead Global Market

With the diversification trend of smart terminals sweeping across the globe, customized LCD displays are rising from an industry supporting link to the core driving force of product innovation. According to a report from a data monitoring institution in the industry and a production event of the 6th-generation new semiconductor display device production line of BOE, in the first quarter of 2025, China's export volume of small-sized LCDs increased by 17% year-on-year. Among them, customized products contributed more than 35% of the growth share, marking that China's display industry has completed the strategic transformation from standardized mass production to scenario-based customization.

At the new display base of BOE in Beijing, the 2.24-inch 1700PPI VR display module that has just been put into production is particularly eye-catching. This customized product, using LTPO (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon) technology, not only achieves an ultra-high pixel density of over 1500PPI, but also reduces power consumption by 30%, perfectly meeting the dual demands of "metaverse" devices for clarity and battery life. "We have independently developed a 2117PPI Real RGB display screen by integrating LTPO and LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon) technologies, breaking the LCD industry's resolution record." Chen Yanshun, the chairman of BOE, introduced. This production line has achieved the industry benchmark speed of "topping out in the first year of operation and lighting up the products in the second year", and currently, customized products such as 14.6-inch narrow bezel vehicle screens and 240Hz gaming screens have been delivered in batches to global知名企业 such as NIO and Nintendo.

The breakthrough in customization capabilities stems from the establishment of technical barriers across the entire value chain. Professional manufacturers such as Shenzhen Yu Hua Micro have developed five core competencies: Through a modular design platform, they can achieve rapid prototyping within 72 hours, and complete the entire process from parameter configuration to prototype production within 3 to 5 days; They independently produce the entire process chain from glass substrates to touch control integration, enabling vehicle display screens to meet extreme environmental requirements of -40℃ to 85℃; Special processes such as anti-glare and antibacterial coatings are adapted to meet the display needs in medical and outdoor scenarios precisely. With the empowerment of AI technology, the production line of BOE has improved the yield of backlight modules from 92% to 98.5% through intelligent scheduling and automatic defect identification, and the overall efficiency of equipment has increased by 0.5%.

Customized innovations in specific fields are breaking the monopoly of foreign technologies. In the medical display sector, Tianshan Optoelectronics has developed a 7-inch anti-glare module for intelligent monitoring devices. This module, featuring an antibacterial coating and high refresh rate technology, accurately presents vital sign data and has passed the EU CE certification for mass export. Taima Microelectronics and Mindray Medical jointly developed a 4.3-inch touch module, which maintains a 0.1mm touch accuracy even at -40℃ low temperatures, filling the gap in display solutions for polar medical equipment. These breakthroughs have driven the scale of China's medical display market to exceed 2.5 billion US dollars, with the domesticization rate rising from 42% in 2020 to 68% in 2025.

Intelligent vehicles have become a new battlefield for the competition of custom LCDs. The 12.3-inch irregularly cut dual-screen produced by TCL China Star Optoelectronics, integrating IPS technology, with a 178° wide viewing angle and 2000 nits brightness, has met the requirements of L3-level autonomous driving and has received orders from car manufacturers such as BYD. The curved bonding process developed by BOE has enhanced the high-temperature resistance of the vehicle module by 30%. Data predicts that the shipment of customized vehicle display screens in China will exceed 120 million pieces in 2025, doubling compared to 2020.

Green production has become an important background color for customized development. The 6th-generation production line of BOE has achieved a 100% utilization rate of heat recovery and a 80% reuse rate of pure water through technologies such as centralized control of cleanroom airflow and AI temperature and humidity self-adjustment. The pollutant emissions are only half of the industry standard, setting a dual benchmark for intelligent manufacturing and environmental production. Industry experts point out that Chinese manufacturers, with their rapid response, full-chain integration and scenario innovation capabilities, are driving the global display industry into the "customization new era". In the future, there will still be huge growth potential in industrial control and smart wearables fields.
