Driven by the rigid demands in fields such as industrial automation, new energy vehicles, and medical health, the Chinese customized LCD display industry is experiencing explosive growth. The latest industry report indicates that the market size of customized LCD displays in China is expected to exceed 580 billion yuan in 2025, with a year-on-year growth rate of 17.5%. Among them, customized products account for 38% of the overall LCD market share, having jumped from 30% in 2020. This has become the core engine driving the high-quality development of the industry. From antibacterial touch screens in medical equipment to unique dual screens in automobiles, customization is breaking the industry's predicament of "a thousand screens looking the same" and allowing LCD displays to deeply integrate into diverse application scenarios.
Technological iteration empowers in-depth scenario exploration, and breakthroughs in multiple fields have addressed key bottlenecks. The core competitiveness of customized LCD displays lies in their "customized as needed" technical adaptation capabilities. In the medical field, Tianshan Optoelectronics launched a 7-inch anti-glare customized module with antibacterial coating and high refresh rate technology, accurately presenting vital sign data, and has achieved batch export with EU CE certification; Tiantai Microelectronics and Mindray Medical jointly developed a 4.3-inch low-temperature touch screen, which maintains a 0.1mm touch accuracy in an extreme -40°C environment, filling the display gap in polar medical equipment. These highly customized products have driven the market size of China's medical display to exceed 2.5 billion US dollars, with the domesticization rate soaring from 42% in 2020 to 68%.
Automotive display has become the main battlefield of customization competition. TCL Huazheng integrated IPS technology to launch the world's first 12.3-inch irregularly cut dual screens, meeting the L3-level autonomous driving requirements with a 178° wide viewing angle and 2000nits high brightness, successfully securing orders from brands like NIO and BYD; BOE improved the heat resistance of the vehicle module by 30% through curved bonding technology, driving the expected shipment of customized automotive screens to exceed 120 million pieces in 2025, a threefold increase compared to 2020. In the consumer electronics sector, BOE's latest 6.745-inch ADS Pro technology screen redefines the high-end LCD display standard with a 446PPI pixel density, 144Hz high refresh rate, and 28% energy consumption reduction.
The market landscape continues to optimize, with Chinese enterprises leading the global supply chain. China has become the core production base for customized LCD displays globally. The total shipment of customized LCD panels nationwide reached 870 million pieces in 2024, and is expected to increase to 960 million pieces in 2025, with an annual compound growth rate of over 10%. The industrial chain's supporting capabilities have continued to strengthen, driving the domesticization rate of key materials such as IC and polarizing films to 68%, effectively reducing production costs and enhancing supply chain stability. Market competition shows a trend of concentrated leadership, with the three major manufacturers, BOE, Tiantai Microelectronics, and TCL Huazheng, occupying 41% of the domestic market share. Among them, BOE's customized business revenue reached 98.6 billion yuan in 2024, and the revenue of customized products from Tiantai Microelectronics increased by 24.7% to 31.2 billion yuan.
From the application structure, industrial control demand accounts for 34.1% and ranks first, followed by automotive display (26.8%), medical health (14.5%), and smart home (12.3%). It is notable that the average number of LCD displays per vehicle in new energy vehicles has reached 3.7 pieces, with a customization rate exceeding 60%, becoming an important driving force for industry growth. In the business context, enterprises like BroadTech have launched flexible customization solutions that support free extension of screen sizes ranging from 15 to 110 inches and various unconventional designs such as L-shaped and wave-like shapes. These solutions have enabled 200+ brands to achieve an immersive experience of "screen as decoration", enhancing brand recognition by 40%.
Looking ahead: Technological integration opens up new growth spaces.
Looking to the future, with the continuous penetration of technologies such as Mini LED backlighting, wide temperature compatibility, and low power consumption, custom LCD displays will extend to higher value-added fields. It is expected that the proportion of custom products using Mini LED backlighting will rise to 28% by 2025, and the proportion of industrial-grade modules capable of working in a wide temperature range of -30°C to 85°C will reach 42%. At the same time, the expansion of the AIoT ecosystem will drive the deep integration of custom screens with sensors and AI algorithms, enabling intelligent functions such as "on-demand refresh" and "environmental adaptation".
Industry experts say that despite the pressure from emerging technologies like OLED and MicroLED, custom LCD displays will still maintain core competitiveness in industries such as industrial, medical, and automotive due to their complete industrial chain, cost advantages, and scene adaptability. In the future, Chinese enterprises need to continuously increase research and development investment, focus on the high-end customization market, and drive industrial upgrading through scenario innovation, to consolidate their core position in the global supply chain.
